Orientation Seminar for U.S. Fulbright Grantees

32Thursday, February 14, 2013, the Romanian - U.S. Fulbright Commission organized its traditional Orientation Seminar devoted to the American Fulbright grantees present in Romania for the academic year 2012/2013 and to greeting the newly arrived U.S. Fulbright scholars.

The event was opened by Mr. Bruce P. Kleiner, Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy, who addressed the participants together with other distinguished guests representing the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Fulbright Board of Directors and the Romanian Fulbright community of alumni.
During the program prepared for the grantees, representatives of the U.S. Embassy briefed them on different concrete aspects of the Romanian environment (economics, politics), but also on important aspects of life in Romania (health, media, security etc.). These presentations vey much assist the grantees to understand and adapt to the Romanian milieu.
33The event was concluded with the reception organized at Casa Oamenilor de Stiinta, where Bruce Kleiner and Edwina Sagitto, Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Embassy, had a chance to actively interact with the American Fulbright grantees, to learn about the various activities they carry out in Romania, teaching and performing research, about the fruitful contacts they establish with their Romanian colleagues and students.

The presence of U.S. Embassy staff in the event added significantly to the success of the Orientation Seminar.

Through its generous message and activities, the Fulbright Program has succeeded in providing substance to the goal of friendship and understanding between the American and Romanian peoples, by offering the opportunity for genuine, personal knowledge of both cultures. The solid group of Fulbright grantees and alumni in Romania and in America who know Romania thanks to their Fulbright experience has kept alive and widened the relationships so essential to an ongoing dialogue.
