U.S. Alumni Fair 2018

On Wednesday, March 21, the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission, with the support of EducationUSA and the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, organized the third edition of our very own U.S. Alumni Fair, hosted by the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism. The event also marked the 25th anniversary of the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission.

Following a brief introduction by Prof. Rodica Mihăilă, the Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission, the visitors were welcomed by Abigail Rupp, Deputy Chief of Mission, U. S. Embassy in Bucharest, and Prof. Marian Moiceanu, Rector of the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture. 24 alumni of various American universities – members of the U.S. Embassy staff and U.S. Fulbright grantees – came together as representatives of their alma maters and spoke to the numerous visitors, from Bucharest and elsewhere, who braved the unfriendly weather conditions to join us on an exploration of the American college experience. During the 3-hour event, the high school and college students visiting the fair, together with their teachers and parents, had the opportunity to interact with the American  and to get more in-depth information on the Fulbright programs for Romanian citizens, as well as on the free services and resources offered by the Fulbright Educational Advising Center-EducationUSA.

Our friends from the American Councils for International Education also took part in the event, providing students with information on the FLEX program, which enables promising Romanian high schoolers to study for one year at a U.S. high school.

Apart from Bucharest high schoolers and college students, the fair was also attended by students from other cities, including Călăraşi, Timişoara and Târgovişte. We thank the Ministry of National Education for helping us in promoting the event.

Our warmest thanks to all those who made the event possible and, above all, to the U.S. Alumni who supported our initiative and graciously represented their alma maters!
