Livia Elena Nica-Rus

Fulbright Visiting Scholar, 2023-2024

Home Institution: “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning, Bucharest
Host University: University of South Carolina
Field: Design Education
Type of Grant: Research

The Fulbright program was my first physical contact with the United States’ society, and it was a wonderful experience for me and my family. We stayed in the South Carolina state. I worked in its main university, and the kids went to a very nice local school, where they made friends and learned a variety of things. The University of South Carolina has a big campus with diverse colleges, research units and many activities for students, faculty and the general public. While being there I interacted with some of the colleges’ departments and with two User Experience Labs. I particularly enjoyed the sense of community inside the university, everybody being helpful and polite, and the structure that made the work process clear and easy to follow.

It’s been a great pleasure to get to know better, not just through the media or the film industry, a society which functions well as a whole, which invests in research and earns in innovation. A big “thanks” to the Fulbright program.

Romanian Alumni Stories

"The different methodologies compared to the European ones, centered on extensive validations, have changed my approach in terms of conducting research. Also, the American culture has widened my perspective by introducing a fresh breeze and more commitment towards family and specific work values."
