20th Anniversary of the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission

Aniversare smallOn May 30 the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission celebrated its 20th anniversary among distinguished friends, elite educators, and staunch supporters. The anniversary brought together a comprehensive range of experts in all fields who have taken part in the exchange program over the years or who have acted as stakeholders and supporters of the well-loved program. The ceremony attracted ministers, rectors, diplomats, and CEOs alongside U.S. and Romanian  grantees, alumni and  academia dedicated to educational exchanges.

American Club “Greens-Up” Local Park and Trails in Brașov

ACC1It was an American Memorial day cook-out with a Romanian flare. On 27 May 2013, the Transilvania University American Club gathered at Pietrele lui Solomon picnic grounds around the smell of “mici” roasting over an open fire and the sound traditional American and Romanian music. Since American Memorial day commemorates those who died in war, the American club engaged in it's own civil service activity, a “Green-Up.”

Last General Meeting of the 2012-2013 Generation of U.S. Fulbrighters

TgJiuThe anniversary events continued for the group of U.S. Grantees and their dependents on Friday May 31 and June 1. The U.S. Fulbrighters visited Northern Oltenia, the Monasteries Dintr-un lemn and Hurezi, “cule” (fortified mansions of local boyars from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries) as well as the famous complex built by Constantin Brancusi in Targu-Jiu: the Table of Silence, the Gate of Kiss and the Endless Column. The group had thus the opportunity to get acquainted to some of the most important treasures of Romanian Mediaeval and modern art, to see monuments that are part of the world cultural heritage.

Review of the Fulbright Panel at SNSPA Conference

SNSPA1Fulbrighters old and new were well represented at a recent conference hosted by SNSPA.  The conference, “The Impact of New Technology on the Media Landscape” (May 27-28) included 2 days of talks on how online news sources, social media, blogs, and Twitter among others are impacting the way people obtain information. The conference was a collaborative effort between SNSPA and the Cox Center for International Mass Communication, based in Georgia, U.S.A.

News from Fulbright ETA Stephanie Herzog

StephanieFulbright English Teaching Assistant Stephanie Herzog has worked this semester with English students at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi to create a student club called, the English Language Enthusiasts' (ELE) Club Iasi. With the enthusiastic participation and planning of the students, the club has held a variety of activities and events, including movie nights, trivia night, conversation tables, and creative writing workshops. Most recently, Stephanie worked with some of the club members to develop a volunteer project where they visit younger students who are studying English ...
