Other Grants for Romanian Citizens

The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA)

A six-week professional development program in the United States for secondary-level teachers to take academic seminars at a host university, observe and share their expertise with U.S. teachers and students, and develop action plans to promote media literacy and critical thinking skills in their home schools, classrooms, and communities. Usually, the competition is announced in November. Once the competition is launched, it will be advertised in the Upcoming Grant Deadlines section of this website.

The Fulbright Schuman Program

The Fulbright Schuman Program awards scholarships to European citizens for research or lecture in the United States on a topic that is relevant to US-EU relations, EU affairs/policy, or EU institutions and shows relevancy to at least two EU member states.

The Fulbright Schuman Program is administered by the Fulbright Commission in Belgium. For details about the application process, please visit: http://www.fulbrightschuman.eu/grants-eu-citizens/.

The Fulbright Scholar-In-Residence (S-I-R)

The Fulbright S-I-R program offers opportunities to non-U.S. visiting scholars from different countries, including Romania, to teach at U.S. colleges and universities for one or both semesters of one academic year. The scholars are expected to contribute to internationalization of the programs and campus, assist with the development of curricula and faculty and support initiatives meant to diversify student and faculty experiences.

The SIR program targets U.S. institutions that might not have a strong international component and belong to one of the following categories: historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, tribal colleges, community colleges, small liberal-arts institutions.

The U.S. institutions of higher education intending to invite a Romanian visiting scholar within the SIR program should submit proposals to the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES). The U.S. institutions may either invite specific scholars by name or have CIES recruit scholars from a particular field with the support of Fulbright agencies.

"My experience at Kent State University as a Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) grantee was the greatest experience in my entire career as a teacher of English. The time spent there varied from intensive courses and seminars to insightful cultural events, from which I gained and further developed significant teaching skills for my field of study."

Iuliana Vizan

Fulbright TEA, Spring 2020

"I know that being an educator has never been easy, all the more now, during the peculiar times we all live. Yet, I have always believed in the power of the word connection, and by it, I mean cascading knowledge, learning from each other, sharing, and coming up with the best solutions. I firmly believe that the future of this world is in the hands of educators, no matter where they live and work."

Nadina Nicolici

Fulbright TEA, Fall 2019

"My Fulbright visit at Rutgers has offered amazing opportunities not only to present my work in the area of Human-Animal Interactions to some of the faculties of Rutgers University and SSW students, but also to establish valuable connections for future collaborations."

Alina Rusu

Fulbright Visiting Scholar, 2017-2018

"The idea of experiencing one of the best education systems in the world (if not the best) could be quite overwhelming. But soon I realized that this is going to be a unique opportunity to learn as much as possible, to work like never before in my academic life. And I did just that."

Ciprian Crețu

Fulbright Student Researcher, 2019-2020

Fulbright offers unparalleled
international educational and
cultural exchange experiences.
