The National Academy of Inventors (NAI) has named 54 academic inventors to the Spring 2019 class of NAI Senior Members. Among these is Professor Ruxandra Vidu, from the University of California Davis, Fulbright Alumna and the President of the American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Vidu became the first Romanian elected NAI Senior Member in the United States.
NAI Senior Members are active faculty and scientists who have demonstrated remarkable innovation producing technologies that have brought, or aspire to bring, real impact on the welfare of society. They also have proven success in patents, licensing and commercialization.
An individual’s nomination for the NAI Senior Member class by its supporting institution is a distinct honor and a significant way for the organization to publicly recognize its innovators on a national level.
The nomination committee mentioned that: “Dr. Vidu is an internationally renowned expert who is among the few researchers integrating materials science, chemistry, physics, and biology to engineer systems at the nanoscale level, to design materials at the nanometer scale with unique size-dependent properties. The significance of Dr. Vidu’s innovation has been recognized by numerous grants and high honors. […] She has led the research and development of wide-ranging applications to the benefit of humanity, such as thin film technology and engineered 3D nanoarchitecture materials, implements for energy and water systems, and pathways for medicine delivery. Dr. Vidu is amongst a few women innovators whose contribution to technology advancement extends beyond fundamental science, resourcefully blending product research and development.”
