“In the week of 18th-22nd February, 2019, I had the great opportunity to visit some schools in Wisconsin to learn about policies and practices related to the evaluation of career guidance programs, the topic I am researching at Boston University, the Wheelock College of Education and Human Development.
Through observation of activities, tour of facilities, artifact and document analysis, discussions with school counsellors, teachers, school principals, academic learning coordinators, district ACP coordinators, and superintendents, I enriched my vision of how a career program called Academic and Career Planning (ACP) is implemented and evaluated at middle school and high school level in the state of Wisconsin. The most important topics discussed with the American decision-makers and practitioners were: how ACP is integrated in the school program, who is responsible for the activities, how staff is trained, what kind of professional resources are used, how schools cooperate with family, community and businesses, how activities are evaluated, how beneficiaries are involved in the process of evaluation, how the participation in ACP influences students, what are strengths and weaknesses of the ACP program.
This study visit was also a great occasion to share ideas and present the Romanian school education, guidance and counseling system to the American colleagues.”
