Romania took hold of my heart in 2015 and since then has consumed my mind and soul. As with any genuine commitment, my relationship with this beautiful, complex country has grown and deepened over time as I have learned of its many tragedies, as well as its many triumphs. I have surrendered myself to Romania. [...] As I continue my Romanian journey, I marvel over the resiliency and fortitude of the people. I am fortunate to have developed close relationships, familial in many ways, with many Romanians. And I am eternally grateful to have been granted a Fulbright and honored to become part of this amazing community.
Academic Exchange Opportunities in the U.S. for Romanian, Moldovan and Ukrainian Students
Kate Ruprecht, currently a Fulbright Student Researcher affiliated with the University of Bucharest (Fulbright Romania-Bulgaria Joint Research Award) and a Fulbright ETA at “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati back in 2018-2019, gave an online presentation about Fulbright Student Grants, the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program and the Study of the U.S. Institutes for Student Leaders from Europe to students from Cahul, Moldova and Izmail, Ukraine enrolled in the Cross-Border Faculty at “Dunărea de Jos” University in Galați.
More generally, the event discussed the benefits of studying abroad and tips for writing successful application essays. The presentation included a variety of study abroad program suggestions for Romanian, Moldovan and Ukrainian citizens, since students at the Cross-Border Faculty represent all of these nationalities.

Fulbright is not just about research and academic events. At least for me, it was also about meeting new people, experiencing the local food, trying to understand different values. For two months my wife and daughter (she is 9) were in Athens with me, and together we were able to travel to Orlando, San Francisco, and Washington. The experiences we had together were extraordinary, and my daughter was impressed enough to declare that she plans to come to college at UGA, probably around 2032.
