Recently arrived in Romania as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar at the University of Bucharest, Ovidiu Calin, Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Eastern Michigan University, has already participated in a series of notable public events.
He gave an interview on TVR’s “Jurnal Cultural,” discussing his impressive academic career, his plans to teach a course on Deep Learning in Physics at the University of Bucharest, and other projects he envisions during his Fulbright grant. On October 3, he received an award in the Education category as one of the top 100 Romanians abroad. On October 4, he was a panelist at the 2024 RePatriot Summit in Predeal, where he discussed the role of Artificial Intelligence in shaping Romania’s future.

Ovidiu Calin is a Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Eastern Michigan University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 2000 and has been a Visiting Professor at Princeton University (2016-2017) and the University of Notre Dame (2000-2002). His diverse mathematical interests include deep learning, mathematical finance, stochastic calculus, information theory, geometric analysis, and the calculus of variations.
