Elyse Reed, Fulbright ETA affiliated with the University of Oradea, recently gave a guest lecture at the University of Bucharest on “The Separation of Church and State in the United States.” The event was organized with the support of Fulbright ETA Isaura Bozu.
The lecture brought together approximately 30 students from the American Studies Program for an engaging and interactive session. Opening with a live poll on the role of religion in government, the discussion introduced key aspects of the U.S. constitutional framework and explored the evolving relationship between religion, law, and public life. A highlight of the session was a mock legislative exercise, in which participants assumed the role of members of congress and debated real-world policy proposals. This hands-on approach encouraged critical thinking and active participation, allowing students to better understand decision-making processes within a democratic system.
The second part of the event shifted focus to professional development, featuring an exercise on conflict resolution in the workplace. Through scenario-based group activities, students collaborated to identify practical strategies for navigating challenging situations.
Combining elements of law, politics, and culture, the event offered students a dynamic learning experience and an opportunity to engage with American perspectives while contributing their own insights.
