The Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Mircea Dumitru as the new Executive Director of the Commission.
He will succeed Professor Rodica Mihăilă, who will be retiring from the Commission at the end of December 2019. We would like to thank Professor Rodica Mihăilă for her exceptional dedication and commitment to the Fulbright Program and to the cultural and educational exchanges between Romania and the United States of America.
Professor Mircea Dumitru has been the Rector of the University of Bucharest since 2011 and a member of the Romanian Academy since 2014. Between July 2016 and January 2017 he has occupied the position of Minister of Education and Scientific Research.
Professor Dumitru was a Fulbright grantee at Tulane University (1993-1994) where he received his PhD in Philosophy in 1998 with a dissertation on incompleteness in modal logic. He is also a Doctor in Philosophy of the University of Bucharest, with a thesis on neo-fregeanism and neo-russellianism in the semantics of propositional attitudes and direct reference.
He authored over 50 journal papers and chapters on topics such as modal logic, theories of truth, meaning, rationality, Wittgenstein’s thought, contemporary logic with a focus on Quine, Kripke, and Kit Fine, realism, essentialism and relativism. Between 2011 and 2014 he was the President of the European Society for Analytic Philosophy. He is a Fellow of Academia Europaea since 2019.
