On November 14, Fulbright ETA Amelia Harrington led an interactive writing workshop as part of the 2025–2026 Fulbright Sessions series organized by the American Studies Center at West University of Timișoara.
The session, titled “RGB Writing Workshop,” introduced participants to a series of literary models and prompts designed to help them create texts centered on a single shade—refracting thought, perception, and experience through the lens of color. Students engaged with text excerpts connected to the colors red, green, and blue, including works by Chase Berggrun, Anne Carson, Federico García Lorca, George Herbert, Maggie Nelson, and Dionne Brand.
Reflecting on her approach, Amelia explained: “I designed a writing prompt to facilitate engagement with each text, intending to illuminate a variety of writing practices and offer access to a characteristic formal or sonic writing technique like personification, redaction, and litany. After giving students time to work with a prompt, I invited them to share their creations. Students chose a diverse array of colors, from walnut brown to lilac.”
The workshop fostered an open, collaborative atmosphere and offered students new ways to consider the relationship between perception, language, and literary form—an example of the creative enrichment made possible through Fulbright engagement on campus.
