Fulbright Alumna Dr. Diana Benea received the University of Bucharest Senate Award for Most Innovative Course in the Humanities for her course “Staging Crisis in U.S. and British Contemporary Theatre,” taught in the American Studies MA program.
Originally conceived and developed during her Fulbright Scholar fellowship at the City University of New York (CUNY), the course has been refined over the past five years through close collaboration with students in the American Studies and British Cultural Studies MA programs. The award also recognizes the course’s integration of theory and practice, enriched by guest lectures from contemporary theatre artists.
Dr. Benea thanked her students and guest speakers for their role in shaping the course, as well as the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission and the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center (CUNY) for supporting her work as a 2017–2018 Fulbright Scholar, and for enabling her engagement with contemporary theatremaking in New York City.
The University of Bucharest Senate Awards recognize outstanding contributions by members of the university community across disciplines, from teaching and research to innovation and civic engagement. The awards were presented at the University of Bucharest Senate Awards Gala on December 17, 2025. See the full list of award winners here.
